It'd kind of be nice to go invisible and just sneak off somewhere, though.... Haha, I so never used to think these romantic types of thoughts. It's so strange, how it gets into you.... They say in alchemy that love's a powerful force, and you imagine it when you're connecting with things that are more vast, but you never quite reckon on how much it can change you even on a person-to-person level....

And I think they don't want to admit it would upset her to harm you-- they want to live in their fantasies where she's never had someone she really cared for, not the way she'll care for them. If they were thinking rationally about any of this they'd also have to realise she doesn't even remember half of their names.
