My office isn't closed, though all the offices anywhere near us are, so the parking is really good today! I feel like we're all just waiting around for the power to go out.
Friday I pretty much went straight home. That was my plan all along, because I had to go to bed early because I had to actually get up kind of early on Saturday. I had a nice relaxing evening on Friday, and went to bed fairly early as planned.
Saturday, up at 7! I got to UUCC just in time for the 9:00 new member class. I've never really attended a non-Catholic church regularly so I have read with interest about what one actually does to officially "join" the congregation. The class isn't mandatory but they are trying to streamline things into an actual process, and I would like to be informed about things. This was basically just a history and discussion class on the UU church in general, only really hitting community-specific stuff at the end. But it was an excellent discussion and a really valuable class for me. I helped clean up at the end because the canvassing person was set up just upstairs, so I put stuff away and cleaned some dishes then went over to pick up a canvassing packet. They also needed a yard sign at the Ellicott City early voting station, so I took that up there too. The early voting this weekend was NUTS. I know people were worried about the hurricane but it was kind of cool to see. Democracy in action! After all that I only had about an hour to canvass and a big, spread-out neighborhood to cover. Ah well. I did what I could, then took my packet back and went out to run errands. I hated to run them while everyone was panic shopping, but that was the time I had. It wasn't too bad at Target, really. A little picked-over, but not too bad. Also I went down to Laurel to feed Matthew's cats. On the way home I stopped at Barbeque House to eat a pile of food, because I was on the two-meal plan that day. More or less.
I got home around 5:00 and put stuff away and hung out with the cats for a while. Then I got ready and costumed up and headed out to Telf and Gene's Halloween party. It was fun! There were two fire bowls and, eventually, s'mores with peanut butter cups! It was great to see people and indulge in Halloween tradition. Even if I was yawning and exhausted by midnight. I left a little after midnight and got to sleep by 1 a.m. or so.
THEN...sigh. I forgot that my stupid alarm clock "automatically" falls back...on the wrong week. So I woke up "before my alarm" on Sunday morning only to realize it was actually almost 10 a.m., not almost 9 a.m., and I had to scramble to make it to church on time. GRR. I love my NOAA weather alarm clock but I'm going to have to go get another one that doesn't do this. Dumb. Anyway, I made it to church, then headed out. Errands (I...may have started Christmas shopping officially) and cat-care and groceries and then home again. Laundry, cleaning. Blog post writing. And eventually, TV watching and dinner eating.
Now I sit around and wait to see how bad the storm gets and if we lose power/get to go home early. Theoretically book club is at my place tonight but I don't know if anyone should actually attempt to drive anywhere since trees might be falling over and stuff.
