A lovely weekend, this time with more sleeping!

Yes, I realize "And then I slept a whole lot!" is actually something of a theme on my weekends, but last weekend wasn't real heavy on sleeping and it kinda caught up with me this week.

Friday night was basically a struggle to stay awake. I did go home and try to write a bit, which was comical due to my tired brain finding it difficult to construct sentences. Eventually I made dinner and watched some TV, hangin' out with the cats, then I went to bed. Probably before 10. In fact I seem to recall it was a struggle to stay up until 9. Yeah. Rock and ROLL.

SLEEP sweet sleepity sleep. Of course the cats, unable to contain their joy at the thought of it being nearly 4 a.m., didn't let me sleep straight through. But honestly, for 12 hours, neither would my bladder. Still, I got lots of nice rest and no need to wake up to an alarm, which is really the key point of successful weekend sleeping. I got up around 10-something, breakfasted, lazed. Eventually I showered. I realized that since I wasn't leaving to go run errands until after 1:00, I should just take my bag with my towel and swimsuit in it with me in the car.

After errands, it was off to my brother and sister-in-law's neighborhood, which has a little private beach on the South River. It also has a dock and a nice covered picnic pavilion! The weather held with no storms and a nice breeze off the river kept the bugs away! Brilliant! I talked with a bunch of folks and hung out on the dock while my nephews hauled crabs up off lines baited with chicken backs, and ate grilled bratwursts and drank beer. And it was glorious! I didn't wind up swimming because, enh, South River. No one was in it but the kids, and then my nephew was talking about someone who got a staph infection after swimming in there, so I decided to stay on land. My Mom came out for a while too, and it was just...nice.

Around 7 I went home. I was supposed to be doing some work to take over hosting a private discussion forum some of my best internet pals and I hang out on, but the person currently hosting was unavailable. So I went and hung out with Lars and Pam and Astrid! There was birthday cake and it was cool. Around 11 I got a text that the database was mine to be worked on for forum transfer, so I went home. Then I spent the next three hours swearing at SQL and reading documentation and getting more and more tired. Eventually at 2 a.m. I gave up and went to bed.

Turning off the light at 2:30 a.m. meant I set the alarm for 10:30, aiming to try to get to church but doubting my ability. And I had trouble falling asleep because my brain, although tired, was also in full Problem Solving Mode, which was hilarious because it doesn't know how to solve SQL problems, at least not yet. Sure enough, at 10:30 I was ...dragging. I eventually got out of bed and checked my email at 11, where I found a response to an email from a few days ago proposing plans at...noon. OH. Well, um...sure? I showered real quick but you know, of course not really all that quick. So I didn't leave my house until nearly noon, sending a quick text that I'd be there "more like 12:30." That turned out fine, as Caleb was still wrapping up some stuff when I got there, with the big ol' box of jazz records that my brother was just going to toss out. We hung out, drove to like three places before we found a place to eat that was open, then sat outside to eat. A thunderstorm got closer...closer...then poof, it was gone and the sun came out. Yesterday was actually a very lovely day. After lunch we went back to his place where I scared the crap out of his roommate, then I went home.

Grocery shopping happened on the way home too, then I went home to put stuff away. Then BOY HOWDY it was time to clean. For reals. I skipped it, mostly, last week, so there was no slacking off this time. I appear to have reached a point in my life where it kind of bugs me if stuff is dirty. Whoa. So I cleaned, even as Katie persistently got underfoot demanding supper. She only left me alone when the vacuum cleaner came out. And afterward, there she was again!

Yes, in two months of living with Katie, I have learned she is not shy at all about asking for things. Food, play, attention, running water from the faucet - she'll ask for it. She has a squeaky little meow that gets louder and louder the longer she feels she has been denied whatever-it-is she wants. She is not as bad about the faucet water as she was at first, because having the bubbling water fountain helps, but she still likes to drink from the faucet sometimes. She also very much wants to be affectionate with Desmond in ways he doesn't really understand. Katie is a head-bonker, meaning she will just headbutt into Desmond sometimes and he won't have a CLUE what to do so he will stand back from her and make funny bird-watching noises at her. And sometimes she wants to curl up with him, using him like a pillow, but he doesn't hold any truck with that WHATsoever. No sir. Which is a shame because SO CUTE! Maybe he'll grow to accept Katie's brand of affection in time.

Once the place was clean and the cats fed, I turned my hand back to the database. This time I decided to just go the tech support route with my hosting company, which was actually very helpful! But just then I was also summoned for some dinner over at L&P's with special bonus guests Jack and Kim, so I said the heck with the database for a while and went over there. That was awesome too. Astrid was just a big ol' pile of smiles, which does wonders for the blood pressure. Eventually I went home and hung out a bit and then went to bed. Not early enough, because I'm really dragging today. I can see now it's going to be one of those gorgeous summer nights where I struggle to even stay awake until dark.

At least the windows are open. Bliss!
