Weekend!

Somewhere along the way I didn't write a weekend update for Memorial Day, so I suppose that will get lost to the sands of time, but it was a very nice weekend. Busy! But nice.

This one was busy too. Friday morning I took a half day off work to attend my younger nephew's 8th grade "promotion" ceremony. It was kind of interminable but it was nice to see everyone anyway. And I'd gone to his older nephew's in his turn so it was only fair. Friday evening itself was lazy, which was nice.

Saturday morning also wound up pretty lazy, which was also nice! I let myself sleep, and noodled on the internet a bit, and eventually showered and realized I wouldn't have time to grocery shop before the older nephew's high school graduation, so I didn't. And I was on time to Mom's and everything! We had a little trouble finding parking at the school but weren't late. The graduation ceremony was lovely, and there were only 41 members of the Class of 2010 so it didn't take very long either! Afterward there was a big party with good food and cake. Hooray! My nephew is off to Loyola in the fall. I am aging rapidly. =)

The rest of Saturday evening was delayed grocery shopping, and then Doctor Who with L. & P. It was a quiet night, but nice. There was a little excitement when I got home to find all trace of myself deleted from the apartment building security system. My electronic key fob wouldn't work and I wasn't listed on the resident buzzer-list, so I couldn't buzz myself through the front door with my phone. Damn. I called the emergency line and it only took like 15 minutes for a guy to come let me in. I left a message with the office and the next day my fob worked again and I was back in the directory. Weird.

Sunday was a busy day! I got up in the morning, not as early as I wanted due to all the shenanigans, and drove to Westminster VA for a big shape-note singing gathering. It was actually an all-weekend thing but due to the graduations I couldn't go all weekend. It was the first time I'd been to one of these big groups; the group I sing with weekly is usually 8-10 people at most. It was pretty impressive! And a lovely drive, though the mountains were full of thunderstorms. I got there late and it ended early so, er...Yeah, not a lot of time for actual singing. I'll have to go the whole weekend next year.

Then I drove home, getting to Savage Mill just in time to help Katherine celebrate her birthday. It was a great dinner and lots of fun! Then I went home and cleaned the apartment, starting to drag, energy-wise. Also my throat was sore, but sometimes that happens after singing. This morning it was clear that this was an actual sore throat, though, which I am irritated about. I haven't had a cold in ages so I guess I'm due, but dang. I hope it passes quickly.
