I need to give Jimmy Carter a standing ovation.

I wanted to share this article, already making the rounds on Twitter, with all of you in LJ-land as well.

Of course I was far too young to vote for Jimmy Carter at the time, and was really too young to know much about him as a president (probably for the best). Over the course of my life, however, he has continued to be a person to admire and respect. When I think about the difficulty of his decision to sever his ties with the Southern Baptist Convention after sixty years of association, my admiration wells up again. Percolating in the back of my mind is a much more thorough blog post on this, but I wanted to put up the links to the article and Carter's op ed piece while they were fresh in my mind.
