Items of note

1. WTMD will be broadcasting the Inaugural kick-off concert this Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (It's also being shown on HBO, but I don't have HBO.) 89.7 FM in the Baltimore area, streaming audio from their website or use their iPhone app elsewhere!

2. This weekend I am going to stride into Target and demand that someone allow me to purchase a humidifier that is not shaped like a penguin. Because if it gets any drier in my apartment I may just crack into a million dry, flaky pieces.

It's not that I have anything against penguins, per se, but a nursery humidifier is not what I need. And I already anthropomorphize stuff too much as it is.

3. On a related note, I haven't seen Little Dude, of the outdoor cat tribe, in a few weeks. This happens on a semi-regular basis: one of them won't show up for a while, then one day, boom! They're back! And in recent weeks a brand-new cat has also shown up (interestingly enough, his ear is already tipped, meaning he was already trapped, neutered, and released). The frustrating thing is not knowing. The outdoor cats are hardy and have lived through worse winters already. L.D. himself has been absent before. But I confess that, even though I shouldn't play favorites, he's my favorite. It's a strange kind of caring that goes into taking care of the outdoor colony - you have to care, but not the same way you do for a pet, or it would break your heart way too much. Anyway, I reckon it's probably just more of the same territory-sparring that always goes on, but I have to hope he finds his way back soon. The other outdoor cats all appear to be fine and dandy, if ridiculously cold. They never lack for food; I think more people are feeding them than ever.

4. Speaking of cats, Desmond has emboldened his brother enough that sometimes Oz now trots out into the hallway when Desmond goes out there. He's so big and fuzzy but he looks so meek and kind of silly creeping around the hallway. He enjoys sniffing around the laundry room a great deal. Oh! In re: #2 above, the cats will also really appreciate the humidifier, because I cannot pet them without LOTS of crackling static.
