What the heck?!

It was a weird weekend, people. Up-before-8 a.m.-each-day weird.

I blame the sun. I kept thinking it was going to be a gray and yucky day and it kept not being. Well, okay, Sunday went over pretty gray and yucky but it started out a bit more promising. But I get ahead of myself.

Friday afternoon at work was pretty stressful, for reasons I may go into in a locked post or something, because it's work-related and I try not to talk much about that sort of thing in this open forum. But something I thought was going to be awful wound up not being that bad, and I think some good might have come of it. Anyway, that in addition to a bunch of deadlines and piddling yet annoying stuff at work added up to a pretty stressful week. It was one of those situations where I didn't quite realize how stressful until the stress was lifted, and then I was all, "Whoa." When the VP suggested margaritas after work, this time I said "Heck yes." So about 8 of us all told went out for Mexican food and libations, and it was a pretty nice time. Eventually got home (with most of my chicken mole enchilada entree in a takeaway box) and just felt like shutting down. I'd had the stress at work, I'd had the blowing-off-steam, and now I wanted, basically, to sleep. I wound up staying up until nearly 10 and then just being like "Why should I wait?" and went to bed.

Then, it's like 7:45 and it's sunny and birds are singing and I'm awake. Not groggy half-awake, actually awake. Admittedly it was still a lot of sleep since I went to bed pretty early. I lay in bed with Oz purring next to me for a bit, then I was like, "Nope, I'm up." In fact I was seized with the thought that it might be nice enough (and early enough - not many people around yet to see me in my ineptitude) to try out the bicycle. I got up and toasted an English muffin and then as I was about to sit down to breakfast the phone rang. "Surely," I thought, "this is a wrong number." But it wasn't, it was John, who lucked out on me already being up, so we talked for a while and sorted out Tuesday's NYC plans as I mumbled around the aforementioned English muffin. By the time I was off the phone and had moved on to grapefruit, it was raining. Oops! So I took the bike into the long basement hallway and gave it a go. Too confined in there, though. Not enough room to make mistakes/corrections without, uh, hitting a wall. Still, I felt like it was better than nothing. When I came up it wasn't raining anymore, so I thought I might try walking to my guitar instructor's - a test run, if the walk was short/nice enough I'd walk to my rescheduled lesson Sunday morning, I thought. I stayed in jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt, which was a mistake. By then it was nearly 11 a.m. and it was actually getting pretty warm and muggy outside. So I took the walk, which was very nice, if sweaty, and saw all the nature I mentioned in Saturday's post. By the time I got back I kind of felt like I loved the whole world (hi, endorphins!) and it was only noon! Still, I was all sticky, so I lay around, quite literally, for about 45 minutes. Then I noodled online. Then I remembered that I'd had some things I actually wanted to get done, and while I did not regret my restorative pleasant morning, I felt like I should maybe do some of them. So I showered and headed out on errands.

One of the errands was to get my eyebrows threaded, at the place msteleute recommended in Catonsville! That was actually pretty cool. It's not as painful as waxing and no danger of breaking out, either. I mean, it's still ripping your hair out, so there's discomfort, but it's pretty quick and easy and doesn't leave my face looking as alarmingly pink, either. (Well, it does get a bit pink, but not as pink, and not for long.) The other errands were a bit more pedantic, but eventually I got done with them, got home, and practiced guitar. Then it was time to meet up with salami_salome for sushi! The Sushi King was pretty crowded, but we only had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated. The wait for the actual sushi? Significantly longer, but that's the chance you take, I guess. My new favorite thing is the spicy scallop roll. Yum! After that it was off to the Royal Farms for ice cream novelties, then I had to drop something off at the Post Office, then S. took her leave and I went upstairs to home and bed. It wasn't quite midnight, but again, I'd been up since around 8 a.m.!

I figured that with my rescheduled guitar lesson at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, it would be a heathen day for me, which was fine. I set my alarm for 10 a.m. and crashed out. Then at 7:15? Yeah, I was totally up again. I wasn't quite as awake as on Saturday - I'd had much less sleep this time. But I realized I could hop in the shower real quick, after feeding the cats, and make it to the 8 a.m. Mass across the street. So I did that, which was nice, because at 8 a.m. not a lot of people are out at church so it was over pretty quickly and stuff. I thought I might come home and nap for an hour or so before guitar but by then I was ravenous, so I made eggs-n-bacon. Desmond loooooves bacon, so this was very exciting for him. (Oz loves it too, if he happens to notice it's being prepared, which he didn't, so he missed out!) I made the bacon in the broiler, and damn, why didn't I start doing this long ago? Handy! After breakfast and cleanup, I lay down for about 45 minutes but didn't actually sleep. Then I got up and walked to my guitar lesson, which was pretty cool. Then I walked home, and had several hours to myself, with which I did nothing useful. Packed up the laundry and headed to the folks' for dinner and conversation, both of which were lovely. My mom got me a new weather station thingie! With a humidity indicator and barometer and everything! (I think she feels bad because when they were over the other week they found out that the one she got me for Christmas didn't work. I didn't mean to tell her, but she saw it sitting there - more the fool I for not putting it away. Because, uh, it didn't really work.) She didn't have to do that, but it was very sweet. I was tired so after I left there I went home, turned on the United game (ugh), and set up the weather station, which began working immediately. Awesome! When I left the house this morning it was 42.4 degrees and 60% humidity outside on my balcony, 70.8 degrees and 41% humidity inside on the bookshelf, with a barometric pressure of 30.02!

Working today, picking up a prescription at Target at lunch, going straight home after work to practice guitar and eat (probably leftover enchiladas, I'm thinkin'!), and going to bed really early. Because, gentle readers, I have to get up at 4 a.m. tomorrow to get on the road on time to meet John on time near Philly to get to Ellen's on time in Princeton to take the train into the city. Sound complicated? Sure, but I'll take it over Greyhound, thanks!

weekend, weather
