Curse you, Trebek!

In an amusing confluence of events, I spent a lot of time talking about Jeopardy! last night with my folks, because my Dad's in the middle of reading Prisoner of Trebekistan: A Decade in Jeopardy!. He liked Brainiac better, but he has found things to enjoy in Bob Harris' book as well, such as strategies and behind-the-scenes tidbits.

Sure enough, this morning when I finally got to sorting through my personal email, they are doing online tests for Jeopardy! again. I think they're moving towards doing it that way almost exclusively - they only mention in-person auditions for people who have disabilities that would prevent them from taking the online test (and they are only being given in L.A.). They at least now say you can take the test on a Mac...but it's "not recommended." Well, I will borrow my folks' computer that evening, then.

Oh yeah... that evening? That the East Coast online test is administered? Tuesday, January 23rd. For those of you playing along at home, that's one day after my carpal tunnel surgery. I won't be duped that easily, Trebek! Besides, my doctor and my mom (who had the CTS surgery years ago) say that typing should be no problem. Now if I had to lift heavy objects to get on Jeopardy!, that would be trouble.

In reading the fine print, I also note that by switching to online testing they get to weed people out further - if you pass the online test they let you know when they're coming to the city you picked (or your alternate choice), and you come in and take another 50-question test and then do the mock game and interviewing and headshots and other stuff that gets you into the contestant pool. Nefarious!
