With any luck, my arduous job search in Portland will soon be coming to an end. Bank of America has offered me a job at one of their call centers and I can start training at the end of the month.
The only catch: the call center is in Belfast (Maine, not Northern Ireland).
So, the job hunt has swiftly transitioned into an apartment hunt!

A few days ago, Scott called his aunt about the apartment downstairs for her, and they said they did not want to rent it again. I think this is because their last two tenets were party people who never payed rent and stunk up the place while they were there. Bah.
You might just try the newspaper. If I knew more people here, I might have more resources, but I tend to keep to myself.
What's NOT in Belfast? Stuff. We've got a nice grocery store for food, but if you need any stuff, you've got to go to Bangor or Augusta (They take about the same time to get to from here.) And by stuff, I mean non-food items...clothes, shoes, socks, totes, sunglasses, a mouse, a lamp, knives, books, electronics, and so on. We have Renys and Job Lot, which are both stores which, like Martins in Brewer, sell things that did not sell in other stores... irregulars, sheets that keep popping off the bed, and such. They are unlikely to have what you need and when they do, it will rip or break or otherwise preform surprisingly poorly, even if it looks fine, like dollar store stuff. Oh, we have a dollar store. We also have many small shops down town, which cater to tourists needs and are expensive. We do have a hardware store which is reasonable, and the co-op, which is like the natural living center- great food and organic stuff, but too expensive to shop in for regular needs. We have a small "book store" but it sells very few books; it mostly has music, a cafe, a gift shop and a dirty nasty bathroom. We have over priced and small versions of a pet store, a shoe store, toy store, yarn store, restaurants, gift shops, rock shop, pagan shop, more gift shops, etc.
We go to Bangor monthly.

I can see why Scott's aunt would be fed up with being a landlady, BUT we could provide her with the names and phone numbers of our past landlords and roommates as references if you think it'd change her mind. I haven't found many 2 bedroom, pet-friendly listings in the newspaper, or in the online resources I found, so I'd be willing to try persuading her if need be.
From our brief exploration of Belfast, we figured we'd have to drive to Bangor for "stuff". Either that, or we'll be placing a lot of online orders. The supermarket is as nice as any Portland, though.
Thanks for all the info!
