Dormant becomes... not dormant

Well, the spring semester got off to a rip-roaring start! Unfortunately, it was with the kind of rip you get when you split your pants and the kind of roar you hear when facing an angry polar bear. (Note: there are no wild polar bears in Maine. Yet.) I moved everything into my car, had an uneventful ride to Orono and upon taking the very first item of cargo out of the Buick... I realize the door is locked and the keys are still in the ignition. I've been driving since 1999 and this is the first time that's happened. I guess I should count myself lucky, but I don't know if I can count to lucky. With this limited base ten number system, it might be a little difficult. I think I'd have to use a base thirty-six number system in order to call it close enough. Anyway... waited fifteen minutes for UMPD to show up and with a little bit of struggle, the officer was able to get it unlocked. Horray for the competent people at Public Safety!
In other news, I've pretty much decided that grad school is a no-go. I don't see the point of taking a generic standardized test to go into a specialized field, so I'm not taking a general GRE. That ruled out most of the universities out there. The only one left was Ohio, and the application deadline already passed. I was short one recommendation letter and a bunch of other BS material that was necessary for the department of International Affairs' graduate program so I have to explore other options. My brother found his way into a close-knit and relatively sensible school, albiet in remote Kansas, in mid-summer and I might look around to see if I can do something similar come May. Otherwise, I'm looking at entering the job market which will either be easier than I expect, or just as hellish as I anticipate. Best not to think of that for now, though. This semester has me in the role of dungeon master, play director and a few other positions of responsibility that I hope to be able to juggle without damaging anyone's balls. <-- analogy is intentionally explicit
Hope everyone else out there enjoys/is enjoying the new year.
