Today I did something very small that might just make a big difference.
Not too much before the end of the school year, I participated in a bone marrow drive at Guelph. I remember reading somewhere that the chances of matching a stranger are something like 1 in 20,000. So needless to say I was suprised to get a call from the Gift of Life only months later to say that I may be a potential match for a cancer patient. Today I went to have a blood test which they will use to confirm if I really am a close enough genetic match. If it checks out, I'll be off to NYC or Boston within the next few months to donate. It's all very surreal. But I've been healthy all my life, never even broken a bone, and if that means I have the oppurtunity to save someone's life of course I'm going to do it.
