I've just about finished with my 14th book and I'm only up to my 7th review of 100 books in 2009. I'm failing at this. Ah well...
My seventh book, I think anyway (I'm getting the order mixed up), was Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon - the first of her Dark Hunter series.
I bought this book at NYCC (one of the only books I actually had to pay for, but it was only $5, so no huge deal) at the urging of Pamela. She reads these books like there is no tomorrow - and I see why. They are clever enough, they have interesting mythology, and a huge dose of eroticism. I mean, these are, for sure, the kinds of books you read when you want some supernatural smut - in abundance. Smut was there in the first few pages in a teasing manor and continued on every page or two, until it got hardcore towards the latter half of the book. By the time I was on page thirty I was as annoyed as those in the books themselves about no real action going on.
This was a conversation I had with Wendy at about page thirty:
Me: No actual sex yet but lots of wanting, longing, deep kisses and erections.
Wendy: So it's like Twilight?
Okay, this is hard. The book was good. I mean, not fantastic but I read it with little complaint (well, except for what was noted above) and while it was rather easy to figure out was exactly was going to happen next the mythology and concepts behind the story itself that the author thought up kept me entertained.
One thing lacking though was the characters themselves. I never really cared about them. If the two main lustful entities that comprise the pages would of dropped dead from combustion I would of been alright.
If you like your supernatural smut though - in mass quantities - I'd suggest this book because it has a huge and powerful series blooming hard behind it that'll keep you satisfied for many years to come.
