Paris Day 6

Today was all about the Eiffel Tower. We got a late start. It was cold. Snow was forcasted. Adam and I were burnt out. I was incredibly sore, but doing a bit better as I'd had a good night's sleep and had started eating more. I was really bummed about the food situation.

We got to the tower and it's.... neat. Actually, it's not that exciting, but it's always neat to see a cultural icon in person. I was surprised to see that it is painted brown. Adam's parents really wanted to go to the very top. We had to stand in line for the elevator only lift as I am completely unable to walk the 750 stairs up to the first observatory landing. When we finally got up there (after waiting in line for tickets, then in line for the elevator) we had a quick walk around the landing - a beautiful view - then got in a long, narrow line for the elevator to the top. Halfway through Adam couldn't take it anymore. It was cold, he had to pee, some one mentioned there weren't toilets at the top and he just didn't care. I was hurting from all the standing and left the line with him. 20 minutes later MIL texted me saying they had just gotten to the top. Yikes. After his parents finally made it back to us we had to wait in line again to go back down.

Seriously, this trip was characterized by lines, waiting, and transportation.

However, the day was redeemed by our dinner. I had mentioned that I really wanted to eat a good French meal. When we got back to Vincennes, where we were staying, it was just after 5 and several places were not serving food yet. We did find a nice neighborhood pub/bistro thing that was quite comfortable and the waiter, who didn't speak great English was delightful. I had a small glass of beaujoulais nouveau (signs everywhere all over Paris announced 'est arrivee!') and a salad consisting of lettuce, tomato, two thin slices of duck, preserved gizzards, with a vinaigrette and toast with foie gras. IT WAS AMAZING. A-MA-ZING.

It was so delicious that it kept me smiling all evening long just thinking about it.
