I really want to like Palin. I do. I want to support women in politics. I want to support the Alaskan. But I also see some of myself in her. She loves Alaska, as do I. She's bossy, speaks her mind, and is used to getting her own way. Me too. She's a big fish from a small pond. I'd be a liar if I said that isn't one of the appealing things about ( Read more... )

I firmly disagree that she isn't smart. Pretty much each and every person that has dealt with her - even when they hate her guts - talks about how smart she is. What a quick study she is, how she can focus.

What I do believe is that when women enter into business and politics they are taken down in one of three ways - Bitch, Idiot, and Emotional. Clinton got the Bitch title, Palin got the Idot title.

Clinton is a strong woman who isn't afraid to throw-down with the big boys. So what did we see...cartoons about her being a witch, bitch, etc. Palin is also a strong woman, but they had a different way to come at her that was already dictated by the area she lived in - so she became the Idiot - after all she IS a totaly hick, doesn't know anything about the world. The Stupid and Sheltered Idiot. The Beauty Queen - because a good looking woman is still automatically thought of as stupid. So everything she said was combed over and then pushed out front to make her appear stupid. Example: The Africa/Country thing...men from her own party leaked that...she was drilling foreign policy (not her strong suit, which is the norm for a New Gov)and misspoke one time country in place of continent. Biden (and others - 57 states) misspeak all the time - but men are perceived as smarter in "wordly" topics so they get a pass most of the time.

And America bought it. America, at its heart, is still far more mysoginist than racist - and it is still far more acceptable to be so.

Everyone in Alaska comments on her lack of intellectual curiosity. Working the system is not the same as smarts. I do believe that media and her own party have played up the ditz role. However, if she in any plays up that ditz role.... I can't politely state how much I disrespect women who play dumb, especially smart women who play dumb. Can.not.abide. It is an insult to women everywhere and is akin to pushing others under in order not to drown.

I think she has a narrow focus - anything not inside of that area of focus she spends no time on. Of course...that's my opinion on someone I've never met.
