I deposited the settlement check for the S70 on Tuesday, although it turns out I will be getting a supplemental check in a few days:
When I
went to collect my belongings, I realized I still had a CD in the CD player (Def Leppard, Hysteria), so I went back into their office to ask for the key, then had to go back again because the battery was dead. The guy from the shop accompanied me back with one of those portable jump-starting kits, and that did the trick. While we transacted this, I was making idle conversation, and mentioned that the car had just had a fairly expensive major service. He said oh, you should mention that to your insurance company, you can often recover some of that.
On the way home I called my adjuster, and he said while he couldn't give me dollar for dollar, if I sent a copy of the invoice, it would provide documentation of the car being in better condition and therefore substantiate a higher settlement value. So thanks to a off-handed sort of throwaway comment, I'm getting another $500-$600 back.
Yet another valuable lesson on the "If you don't ask..." rule popularized by VP maven Jean Scott.
