Problems with the shitbox again: tonight when I got back from hockey and got out of the car, I saw steam coming from under the hood and heard a sizzling sound.
I'd go with the free tow. You could probably fill the radiator and make it, but since it's free why risk getting stuck halfway? My guess is the leak is one of these spots (in order of likelyhood and probably cost to fix): -hose or clamp -water pump -radiator -cylinder head gasket -cracked cylinder head
If it's the head gasket you don't really want to drive it. Usually, though, a head gasket leak will leak water into the cylinder, not out. If it's the headgasket the vast quantities of steam will usually be out the tailpipe.
It's likely that you ran low on coolant - the remaining coolant probably boiled off and burst a hose somewhere. Refill your coolant, run your engine, and look for leaks. If you have a leaky hose, you can replace it for very cheap (some places will do it for free - depending on the hose, though, it should be far less than $100).
