I just remembered something I'd forgotten to comment on in my SCF diary: at various points during the trip I found myself in a bar/pub in Vancouver (the oddsmakers take a beating) and on at least three occasions they brought us separate checks without our even asking for them -- in one case we had 6 people and they brought us 6 individual receipts; in the other cases we only got a single receipt but it listed the items ordered and had the amounts broken out and subtotaled on a person-by-person basis.
I don't know if this is a new thing or what -- is it a matter of routine in Vancouver? all of Canada? Anyone seen this in the U.S., or other countries? I think it's a great feature, and hope it catches on.
