8. Hawkin's Pac-Out - Only one location, the intersection of Hill Rd. and where Harrison turns in to Bogus Basin Rd. So this currently takes my top spot, and for a bunch of reasons. The burger, cooked and seasoned well, they make everything fresh to order, so this is another one of those places where it's gonna take more then 30 seconds to get your food. I will say this, as of the last few times we've been there, the times have gotten better. I would wait a while for food like this, but they've been doing a really good job of getting stuff to you in a timely manner. The fries....oh the fries...these may be the best fries ever. Always crispy and seasoned perfectly. The thing about seasoning fries it that most places dump their fries into a hot spot, and shake on their particular seasoning. What sucks about that is you almost always end up with certain fries that have WAY too much stuff on them, and others that never got touched. For example, I bet all of you have had McDonald's fries and picked one out, and the second it hit you mouth you do the knee jerk reaction of wiping the hand that touched it on a napkin, shit, pant leg...what have you. The thing is sometimes you can tell just by having it in your fingertips for 2 seconds that it's covered in salt. Which is sad, cause McDonald's did a genius job of inventing their seasoning, in fact my home made fry seasoning is based on their recipe. My point, you don't get that at Hawkin's, and I have not tried to see how they season, but keeping the fries moving as you shake on a little at a time...generally a good way to go. The shakes are fantastic, I think these are AJ's favorite malts. They have a really cool selection of flavors, including some candy flavors that allow you to get more of a TCBY type shiver which is cool. They even do seasonal flavors. Pretty neat stuff. The thing I love most about this place is the consistency. You always get a great meal. If you tell them what you want, you'll get exactly that, every time. I've never seen them add pickles to someone's burger who said, no pickles. You get plenty of food at a very good price, and if I had to complain about anything, it would be that since it's a bit of a drive, I can't eat there as much as I think I would like to. Still, maybe that's part of what makes it so good...you have to look forward to next time, cause who knows when it might be. My advice? Go there and get the Herby's Special, and order a shake too. It's like doing yourself a favor. P.S. Bacon on the burger's, a really good thick, center cut. Never the fatty crap.
