Making wigs for Polly Pocket

Jan 05, 2012 03:57

Okay... so I started cutting away the hair on one of my seven blonde-ponytail-girls, because I wanted to make my own wigs for her - when my X-acto knife broke.

In the pictures below you can see how far I got. It required quite a bit of elbow grease; the hard plastic wigs are glued on pretty well!

So, today I went out to get some new X-acto knives - and some Fimo clay! But when I returned back home with my new buys, my boyfriend appeared to have cut away all of the plastic hair on my Polly..! So, I found a bald Polly on our sofa...

This is where the fun part started for me: making Polly some new wigs!

I wanted to make her two different types of wigs:
- hard clay wigs with Fimo
- rooted fiber wigs

I made two wigs using Fimo clay and they turned out quite amateuristic, haha...

Sooo, I decided to go with the rooting option. Which posed a problem though: where in the heavens was I gonna find wig caps in Polly's tiny tiny tiny size 2"/3"? ... Yeah, nowhere. I'd have to make them myself! At first I tried with your average transparent office desk tape, but it quickly turned out not to be strong enough. Then I found this awesome tutorial:

I will be using this tutorial for my first rooted wig. I've already covered my bald Polly in plastic wrap and gauze, but I don't have Tacky Glue, so I'll have to buy that first... tomorrow. I won't be able to work on the wig before the weekend though, unfortunately. I'll keep you posted then. I can tell you now that Polly's first rooted wig - if I manage to pull it off - will be PINK!!! ^^

Omake: I made a stupid mistake. Here I was thinking all my 20 Pollys had the same face. Wrong. They're a mixed bunch of series 3 and series 4 Pollys. You can see the difference in the picture below. On the left you can see what I believe to be a series 3 Polly, on the left a series 4 doll. Woops.
