My Reason to Relay is to join people around the world in celebrating those who have survived cancer, remembering the people we've lost, and supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society.

Michael Long was essentially my stepdad; I grew up with him being around, and once my parents were divorced, he and my mom became an item. They moved together from Columbus to Mansfield, OH, and after six happy months there, after starting a job he loved and finally getting to relax in the gazebo he'd always wanted, Michael went into a coma after suffering from strokes and a heart attack. Once in the coma, the doctors found lung cancer and bone cancer throughout his body, and after two months in the coma Michael passed away.

He was a great man to have in my family and all of his miss him very much, and appreciate everything that he did for my mother. Even though they weren't married, he was a part of our family, and I am relaying in his memory.
