in erie for a few days. my mom was really excited to see our lady peace at the house of blues in cleveland on thursday. i wasn't really too into it, but it turned out to be pretty fun. the venue is really nice, and it really is intimate.
i haven't listened to them in years, but my mom took me to cleveland to see them many-a-time in high school. listening (and singing along) to their old stuff i was remembered of why i liked it. they had an album called "happiness is not a fish you can catch" so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the appeal, ha. some other things i think that appealed to me were that:
-i could actually sing along--the lyrics were comprehensible!
-i could actually get really into them and had not already missed the boat. the smashing pumpkins were my favorite band, but by the time i got into them they already had a couple of albums out and it was impossible to get tickets to their shows
-they were still a little more obscure than your average radio rock band
-they were/are huge in canada though so that was always fun when chatting with my new and exciting canadian internet friends. and then going to canada for concerts and being the cool in the know american.
anyway, it was pretty fun. went with my mom and ally. my mom had us get there RIGHT at 7 though. i have no idea why! the opening band was meese. they weren't bad. inoffensive. olp has a new album out and it sounds pretty good, unlike when they tried to go for MTV and it apparently destroyed their career.
it's nice being in erie. made my trip to the co op. saw my cousin and her kids. saw my grandpa. got some tomatoes from him, and so i hope i can get them back to philly ok so i can make some sauce. when i'm in erie i want to do something to help this town out. one thing i often think about is starting another newspaper. no idea how that would actually work though.
back to philly tomorrow.
