ok, i haven't personally encountered this "BUT I HEARD IT ON THE INTARWEBZ" stuff before but WOW.
my mom calls me from her work line (she rarely does this), i think it's important. but no, it's about how obama supports forcing ERs to provide abortions to women with full term pregnancies. the whole thing i just can't even wrap my mind around it but then i hear her coworker rambling about "freedom of choice act" and how if you google it you'll see that obama supports it and it's about killing "babies"!!!! my mom's friend touched on this this weekend--her mom was worried about obama cause he supports partial birth abortion, but i thought it was just a fluke. i had no idea that there were more people out there clinging to this "extremism" of obama's.
From my understanding of the bill i'm glad obama supports it! the logical leap between codifying roe v. wade and forcing ERs to kill "babies"....i'm speechless! i just don't even know what to say to that. even this site points out the law would remove restrictions. going from removing restrictions (as far as i know, there is not a specific restriction that prevents forcing ERs to kill babies) to ERs killing "babies"?????? what the fuck? i guess the logical leap is if hospitals have to provide the morning after pill to rape victims, forced "baby" killing is not so unthinkable!
i don't really think ERs are the place for abortions unless, as the name suggests, it's an emergency. but requiring medical facilities that offer obstetric services also offer abortions, or some other method for ensuring that access to facilities is not an issue for women seeking an abortion, i want that. i think even that stance could easily get turned around "but some practitioners have personal objections to abortion!!!" but at least it wouldn't be as crazed as barrels of dead "babies" hangin out in the ER. goodness gracious.
ETA: a new level of crazy. apparently obama is unqualified because he has only been in the senate 143 session days and what other high level job could you get after only 143 days!? how cutesy. but again, if people cared about experience our final democratic candidates would not have been the least qualified (in terms of resume points). blah.
