The limitations of technology still astounds me.
Let me rephrase: the limitations of technology designers still astounds me.
I signed up for Edison's direct debit program on the 9th or so. It cleared on the 18th (a delay that shouldn't occur, but whatever). Payment for the bill was due on the 29th, so it should pay automtically? Right?
Wrong.
Okay, so for some godforsaken reason, 10 days is not enough time for the system to recognize that my bill needs to be paid, and should be paid by my newly certified checking account. So I should process a payment manually, at least this one time. Right?
Wrong.
As I am enrolled in direct debit, I cannot pay one-time by check or credit card.
I was forced to either drop off my check in person at some payment location (hard to do working 9-to-5!), or pay a $5 fee for them to pay by QuickCheck over the phone (which I presume is a third-party service, so the fee makes some sense), which is what I did because it is better than paying late fees.
Moral of the story: I am out $5 because tech designers are retarded.
THE END.
