It's been a while since I posted here. No reason really, just no inspiration. Something happened to me the other day, though, that made me see thing clearer, if a little bleaker

You know it's not so simple. Morality is a mental construct. No action you can take is gauranteed to have positive repercussions, nor is any self deemed negative action entirely hurtful. You can do what you think is in the best interest of yourself, others or a place or thing, but all choices are influenced by your environment and need to progress your situation in some form. You lament cheap gas and a comfortable budget so you seek cause in others where, no doubt, it does exist... but don't completely seperate yourself from that cause, nor deem it's roots immoral. "Good" people do "bad" things in the name of convenience but it doesn't make them immoral. Progress has always been a bumpy road. I buy my shit at walmart cause it's cheap, though the old creed of 'you get what you pay for' still holds. I seek my good shit elsewhere. One could easily argue that walmart is driving the artists community. Where else can you learn to so readily identify crap. The more uniform and convient you make things the more people will struggle to find unique means of identifying themselves. You know I'm not one to argue the capitalist view but you can't just oversimplify matters like that. Consumer awareness is where it's at. Soda's been on the decline since the 80s in schools and corporate buildings. Cities favor unique restaurants over a 19th McDonalds. it's not morality at all, it's convenience VS. quality of life. People are intstictively selfish... hell that's what insticts are, a gene-born means of self preservation, but we can and do overcome it. Sacrifice and humility abound in serious situations. In the everyday hum drum lifestyle that's been thrust upon us there is almost no need for sacrifice. Why not treat this enforced peace and democracy as a game. There's no threat unless you cheat..... ok I'm getting a bit off topic. Anyway. Nothing is black and white, not all capitalists are corporate fat cats and I'm sorry you pay too much for gas. That being said. If you haven't seen Sin City yet what the FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU. Go see it twice today.

I admit that my own self-imposed morale code is biased. I agree that any action can have a positive or negative effect, depending on infinate varriables. But I believe that it is the intent behind the actions that decides if it is good or bad, which is totally subjective and in no way quantifiable. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
I also agree that all capitolists aren't fat cats. As I said before, any system can be successful with the right people in place. A Monarchy can be as sucessful as a Democracy, or both can fail. It all depends on who's in charge. If theres one thing that I learned as a superviser, it is that the person at top sets the tone for those below them, be it a shift supervisor, Program Director, or President, and that the higher up you go, the more influence you have. "Well, duh, Captain Obvious". All I can say is that it is different to think it than it is to actually experience it and see how you impact other people first hand.

people are in charge of every system, my brother. and it is people who put value into money, economic growth, and convenence, and who focus on 'creating more jobs!' in place of making things more efficient. hell, if i had things my way, everyone would work 20 hours a week, and we would focus on innovation and space travel rather than economics, religion, and fucking politics. and without insurance, lawyers, bloated politics, and bankers, there would be plenty of people to do the jobs that matter so everyone could just do their share for a couple days a week and actually do what they want the rest of the time.
