It's fascinating that you can't tell who is in control, because while I was writing it, I was trying to write the scene with the kind of undertone that though Teresa planned this, it's Harper who started it, and it's Richard who has the power to stop it. Basically all three of them have to agree with each other in order to let this happen, and though Teresa is being a bit directorial and she's definitely the one being pushy, it's not entirely by her will as well. /rolls around.
And yes, I'm trying to write Teresa as how she is in the series - that she's strong and she's not weakened by the strength of her love for Richard. That she's a woman, and she's strong as a woman, without having to turn into a stoic stone of a man. Also, the bit about her not wanting to swallow was picked up by you and Helena both, and I am just so secretly pleased by it because it's just those little things that show your past. One of the things I dislike most about Teresa's depiction - which frankly ( ... )

I can only watch the Sharpe series in small parts because there's too much war and costumes and canon's and all of that for my taste (I haven't gotten any farther than "Sharpe's Honour" I think) but I was quite pleased with Teresa. Though there role is a stereotype- strong woman but can't resist the hero (who of course is a man) it's a lot better than many things you see here on TV and I think it's what you mentioned, that she is strong as a woman (and a mother) that makes her interesting and that she's not some strange amazon who wants to be a man.
Sorry for the gazillion typos in the other comment, was in a bit of a hurry...

And yes, exactly. She's not a woman-who-behaves-like-a-man; she is feminine, and that femininity doesn't detract away from her strength. She's brilliant as a character.
Also, I didn't even notice the typos! Are you feeling better today, though? Are you still sick? You don't have exams anymore, right? /fusses
