Friday evening at 8:40 pm, a single-engine Cessna airplane crashed at the corner of Ocala Rd. and Tennessee St. in Tallahassee. It's a very busy intersection (a four lane road crossing the main drag's six lanes) about a mile west of FSU campus, but only one person was injured - the pilot (he was carrying no passengers). Somehow he managed to land on the grassy area between the road and a Walgreens drugstore on the corner. The plane downed a powerline and a good chunk of western Tallahassee, including campus, was without power for a few hours. Two students were stuck in a dorm elevator for two hours. :-0
HERE are some amazing photos taken right after the crash. I am amazed that the pilot survived.
Sunday in Buffalo, NY, Florida Panthers (hockey) player Richard Zednik got his carotid artery sliced open in a freak accident during a game against the Buffalo Sabres. His teammate Olli Jokinen collided with an opposing player and tumbled head-over-heels onto the ice. His skate blade caught Zednik in the throat. Zednik grabbed his neck and headed for the bench, leaving a trail of blood behind him on the ice. He was rushed to a local hospital where he had emergency surgery and is now in stable condition.
