Since there's allegedly an Olympic Games coming up, the anti-Olympics people are also coming out of the woodwork. (Having survived the last ones, I have to say that, while the Olympics can be incredibly obnoxious, some of the people who don't like the Olympics are even more so.)

This article annoyed me. Obviously, this Samantha Retrosi has never read the books. Most of the competitors in the Hunger Games are there because they lost a lottery. The only known exceptions to that rule are the Career Tributes, who specifically train for the games and volunteer to replace kids that have been reaped (selected), and Katniss Everdeen. (ETA: Also Peeta and Mags in "Catching Fire.") Samantha - and her family -made the choice to participate in the sport and to compete at an elite level. They also could have made the choice to reject it. It's been done before.

I actually think that NCAA collegiate sports has more similarities to the Hunger Games.
