So the "green" Olympics weren't as green as expected. And business reaped most of the benefits. So why am I surprised?
The post 2010 Olympics report also doesn't mention housing or homelessness. Hopefully, it will make the next report. There were relatively few reports of Olympics-related eviction (residents at a Downtown Eastside SRO were evicted by a landlord that wanted to use the facility to house "guest workers" hired to work on Olympics projects) - even a renters' advocacy group here was a bit surprised.
On the bright side, the amount of attention given to the Paralympics (three weeks after the Olympics) helped change people's attitudes towards people with disabilities (for the better).
Speaking of the Olympics,
the Tyee made an FOI request for a 2007 report on the financial risks on the 2010 Olympics -
they got A report, but key parts were censored.
I need a cookie right now.
