"I thought that global warming would take care of it! Can't Al Gore do anything right?"

Homer, rationalizing not paying the heating bill.

"This book sucks so much."

Homer, reading The Bridges of Madison County. Coincidentally, he also could have been talking about this episode.

"He who is tired of "Weird Al" is tired of life."

Homer, about "Weird Al" Yankovic (duh).

This episode completely destroys the show's timeline. Past episodes showed that Bart was conceived when "The Empire Strikes Back" came out, and that Lisa was a baby during the 1984 Olympics. According to this episode, Homer and Marge weren't married until the 1990s (it references the Seinfeld episodes about the contest, and when Elaine was looking for a spongeworthy man), when a struggling Matt Groening created "Futurama."

Memo to the writers: You. Do. Not. Mess. With. The. Canon. Have you never watched the show? (Exception: Treehouse of Horror, or any other anthology show.)

There really could have been a better way to satirize the 1990s. Also, there was too much Marge and not enough Homer. Marge was a totally pretentious bee-atch--unfortunately, she didn't have a character like Michael Caine's (in "Educating Rita") to call her out on her behaviour. Homer's grunge band was pretty funny, and there was a good "Back to the Future" reference. And "Weird Al" Yankovic's song (a parody of one of Homer's grunge songs, natch) was good too.

I really need one or more of what Wing & Lowe are having.

Still: Worst. Episode. Ever. The next new episode had better be GOOD.
