an open letter to anyone who may have some influence over the size of pockets in girlpants

To whomever decided that making the already-small pockets on girls' jeans miniscule was trendy or what-have-you:

Please inspect the size of phones these days. I had to replace mine because the old one is on its last legs. The phone is now an inch wider and almost two inches longer, because apparently progress means that phones now have to be gargantuan. This would be a moderate annoyance, because this is outsized for the pockets of my old jeans, except that I had to buy a whole new batch of them because I hadn't bought clothes since partway through college and I've worn every pair but one to holes. Now the pockets are a third of the size of the old pockets. They could contain my ID and my old phone only if I turned them sideways.

You see where this is going.

I used my phone as a scientific calculator, god damn it. I still need a scientific calculator at hand, and now IT IS THE SAME SIZE AS A TI-89 WHICH IS ALSO NOT POCKET SIZED.

Basically, it is time to buy some fabric and modify all of these pockets because this is positively ridiculous.

But on the plus side, my phone reliably charges and my jeans don't have holes in them.

edit: It occurs to me that there was a time in my life wherein I excised the pockets from oversized cargo pants and sewed them onto better-fitting jeans. Perhaps I should start that again.
