Isn't the right word to use "pre-emptive" instead of giving "proactive" a whole new meaning?

Pre-emption only applies when you expect bad shit to come. (And usually they do) So maybe have these words hand-in-hand at all times.

I just realized I was procrastinating -- being really selfish and not accepting responsibility -- I blamed the world for not going my way. But you know what? Once you admit to yourself that there's something you want to change about yourself, and it's within your power to change it? Damn, it's empowering!

So proactivity means "do stuff because it's right", and it's commonly mistaken for "do stuff before shit hits teh fan", I see...

Close -- For me it means when there's an inadequacy in the way you feel about yourself and it's within your power to change it -- take action and fix it.
