Doesn't Marvel retcon every fucking hero they have at some point(s) or another? The thing that sent me away was Shadowcat/Colossus, who were FUCKING MEANT TO BE TOGETHER IT WAS CANON, only oops, nope. I'm not sure why that upset me so much, but it did. And for all I know, they're back together and happily married and raising little kids who can be metal and walk through things.

The problem with comics is this: If you have a wonderful character/successful series, it's going to run a long time. Years. Decades. That's what one wants, but the downside is the WFT do we do now? For years Superman and company went along happily with stories. You could enjoy each one with very little knowledge of the backstory, because it was mainly Guy from Not!Earth Does Good Deeds. Then Marvel came along and started making their heroes more human--they had real lives, and ongoing relationships, and problems unrelated to the super-hero-ness. Gwen Stacy died. Ororo cut her hair and had a mohawk. Magneto was bad...no, good...no, bad...no...whatever. (My feelings for Magneto--much like my feelings for John Harrison and Doctor Doom--are "I don't care if he's good or evil, I adore him!) And when you do that, you're eventually going to run out of places to go, so you have to start all over again with sorta-different-but-really-the-same characters, and sometimes you get good stuff (rebooted Star Trek) and sometimes you get absolute sh*t (sounds like the new IM falls into this category).
