Cranky.
For one thing, I'm utterly brain dead after this week of overtime. And I'm going in to work tomorrow for at least half a day. It's only 8:00 and already I want to just crawl into bed.
But I'm also cranky because I read
this tonight.
It's an interview with David Howe, the new president of the Sci Fi Channel. For anyone who doesn't care to read the entire article, I quote the relevant section (emphasis mine):
Sci Fi last December launched the technology-oriented dvice.com, the first of three new sites focused on the interests and lifestyles of the Sci Fi audience. “We've taken the audience that comes to scifi.com, young males, and looked at what their affinity areas are,” Howe said. “The three things that interest them are technology, sci fi fantasy entertainment and video gaming. What we're creating is a portfolio of young-male skewing web sites that will all be powered by Sci Fi.”
Excuse me?
I didn't realize that apparently my interest in sci-fi makes me a young male. I had no idea that all the friends I have who also are interested in sci-fi and computers and gaming are actually guys, and not the women I thought they were.
Huh. I guess you learn something every day.
What annoys me the most is that it's such a tired cliche that only geeky young guys enjoy sci-fi. I find it hard to fathom that in this day and age anyone can still believe that -- let alone the president of the television channel actually devoted to the genre.
*headdesk*
On the bright side, the article also contains this quote, which made me squee with happy.
Also on Howe's agenda is the long-awaited return of one-time Sci Fi Channel hit Farscape as a Web program
Yay! Because any Farscape is good Farscape.
