---
Kibum walked into the warm band room around nine o'clock. Band practice was nearing it's end and he nearly threw a party at the thought. Tonight had been rough and his eyes were puffy from crying after their instructors had repeatedly yelled at them for, what he thought, no reason. The room was silent as everyone listened to their band director.
"Hey." Kibum looked up to see someone wave at him. He smiled at waved back. It was Henry. The Chinese-Canadian played the marimba in the pit. He tilted his head to the side as he observed Kibum while playing with his mallets that were resting against the keys. He frowned when he noted Kibum's foul expression and shivering body.
"Hi," he returned the greeting, trying to keep his smile up. Henry bit his lip and glanced at the band director.
"Are you okay?" he asked quietly.
"I'm fine," Kibum replied instantly. Henry crossed his arms, looking unconvinced. "Really," he insisted.
Henry opened his mouth to say more, but Kibum turned his head the other way, halting anymore conversation.
"Okay then..." their director said, flipping through his folder that was on his stand. "Well, go home, drink a lot of water, and please just go to bed." All the kids groaned at the director for trying to be their parents as they began to move around, putting away their instruments. Kibum sighed as he picked up his flags and marched up to the guard closet tucked behind the orchestra racks. He opened the door and quickly set his flags down before turning and leaving to get his back pack.
He jumped when he felt someone sling their arm around his shoulder and he looked up at Changmin. "Are you okay?" the taller boy asked.
"Yeah," Kibum said as they exited the band room. "Rough practice, that's all." He walked over to his back pack, bending down and hauling it onto his shoulders. "I'll see you tomorrow." Changmin smiled and walked up to Kibum, giving him a quick hug before letting him go.
"Night," he said as Kibum waved. He walked to the end of the hall, pushing the door open and stepping outside. All he wanted to do was go home and sleep.
---
Kibum shivered as he stared down the ominous door to room 633, his history room. He had a test today that he barely had studied for since he was at practice yesterday plus the fact that he had a Spanish test, chemistry test, and math test on top of this one as well. "Why does life hate me so much?" he cried woefully as he stepped into the classroom. With his head bowed, he trudged over to his seat next to Heechul who was staring at the ceiling, his expression neutral.
"Are you ready for this test?" Kibum looked up to see Donghae staring at him, his eyes fearful.
"No," he admitted. "But, I mean, its multiple choice, how hard can it be?" He glanced over at Heechul who scoffed at his remark.
"I guess we'll see," Donghae sighed, plopping down dramatically into his chair. "I'm scared."
"You should be," the teacher snapped as she walked in, a stack of papers in one hand and a pile of scantrons in the other. She began passing the papers out. "Good luck," she cheered sadistically before sitting down at her desk.
Kibum bit his lip and flipped the test over, immediately writing his name on it. He began reading through the questions and marking the answers he thought were right on the answer sheet. Thirty minutes later he felt pretty confident about all his answers and stood up. Grabbing the test he walked over to the teachers desk and placed his test down on the growing pile of tests. Mrs. Son shot him a smile and Kibum shivered and flinched back, thinking she was going to eat him.
Stiffly, he walked back over to his desk, catching Donghae's worried gaze as he passed him before seating himself down in his chair. He shook his head, trying to forget the trauma of taking his first test in history for now. "Is everyone done?" Mrs. Son asked, craning her neck to scan the room. "Alright, let me go grade these for you really quick." She stood up from the desk, grabbing the papers and neatly ordering them.
"What?" the whole class gasped when she stood up.
"Aren't computers and technology just amazing?" Mrs. Son questioned gleefully. "I love how fast I can grades these now." She promptly left the classroom, leaving all the students still gaping in her wake.
"How did you think you did?" Donghae asked, turning around in his seat to look at Kibum.
"I don't know," he shrugged. "I thought I did pretty well."
"I didn't know anything," Donghae whined and bounced in his seat. "I read all the chapters and everything, but it was so hard!"
"What did you do then? Guess?" Kibum asked as he pulled out his planner.
"No, I drew in a dinosaur on the scantron sheet," Donghae replied with a goofy smile. "I've always wanted to do that."
"And you picked this test to do it?" Kibum asked, his mind trying to wrap itself around Donghae's strange reasoning. "Why the hell...." Donghae shrugged and turned back around in his seat. "What about you, Heechul?" he asked his redheaded friend. Heechul turned to stare at him before shrugging.
"I didn't even read the chapters," he said nonchalantly. Kibum sighed and let his head drop to his desk. All his friends were either dorks or just plain stupid. "Well, she did say we all were going to fail so I didn't see the point."
The door opened again and the whole room went dead silent as Mrs. Son flicked through the scantron sheets. "H-how were they?" one kid was brave enough to ask.
"Terrible," she responded, then began calling out names. "Donghae," she said, handing the scantron back to him. "Terrible job, but I liked the picture." She smiled and gave him a thumbs up. Donghae laughed nervously and took his test from her. "Heechul." She held the scantron out for the redhead to take.
"How did you do?" Kibum asked.
Heechul was looking over the sheet and sighed. "Sixty percent." Kibum gulped nervously.
"What about you?" He leaned over his desk to peek over Donghae's shoulder.
"Yay! I got half exactly half of them right!" Donghae cheered loudly. "And I did it all by drawing a T-Rex." Kibum considered committing suicide right then and there.
"Kibum." Mrs. Son walked over to him, holding out his test. Taking a deep calming breath, he reached out and took it from her, timidly peeking at the grade.
"How did you do?" Donghae asked. Kibum calmly set his test down so that no one could see his grade. He felt like crying. "Um, Kibum?"
"I got a sixty-three...." he said. His mother was going to kill him when she found out. Literally kill him.
"You are sooo dead," Heechul joked as he zipped up his backpack, glancing at the clock. "You're mom will eat you alive."
"I know," he whispered.
"Hey," Donghae snapped. "That's better then a fifty! Why don't you just go find your boyfriend and ask for a hug to make you feel better," he teased. Kibum scowled and reached a hand out, smacking Donghae over the head.
"Don't make me hurt you," he growled. Donghae squeaked as the bell rang and quickly scrambled up from his desk and bolting out of the room.
---
"Bye," Changmin said as he hugged Kibum, the smaller of the two had his head tucked underneath Changmin's chin. "Have fun in health."
"Yeah, whatever," Kibum laughed, rolling his eyes as his boyfriend let him go. He waved as he walked off towards his classroom. Rounding the corner, he sighed when he noticed the health room was locked, like usual. He hated having to stand outside and wait. "Hi," he said when he saw Henry leaning against the wall, headphones over his ears.
Henry looked up and smiled. "Oh, hey dude," he said, waving. Kibum tilted his head to the side, surprised at Henry's strange greeting habits.
"Is that how you say hi to everyone?" he asked.
"Say what?" Henry questioned.
"You always sound so surprised," Kibum commented. He grabbed the straps of his heavy back pack and lifted it, trying to relieve his shoulders of the pressure. "Like you don't expect me to say hi."
Henry laughed at him and shook his head. "Only to you," he responded. "You're just that kind of person. I feel like greeting you that way," he grinned as the bell rang, though their teacher still hadn't shown up to unlock the door.
"Thanks?" Kibum responded, not sure if that was a compliment or not. Henry shrugged and looked down at his ipod, scrolling through his music list.
"So are you and Changmin like a couple now?" Henry asked, looking up at Kibum again. "I always see you two just chilling with each other now. It's kind of cute." Kibum smiled as his face flushed in embarrassment. "I would totally have a cooing moment, but that's just too girly if you ask me," Henry remarked as their teacher finally came up to the door, pulling out his keys as he fiddled with the lock. Kibum bit his lip, unsure of how to answer. "Oh, dude, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel awkward or anything." Henry held up his hands and Kibum shook his head.
"No, it's okay," he said when the door finally opened.
"Oh yes, now it's health class," Henry said, picking up his back pack from the floor as the students began to file into the classroom. "I'm so glad I have to take this class." Kibum couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not. Last class of the day, he repeated to himself like a mantra as he stepped into the boiling hot health room. Last class.
