I had the most glorious weekend! (This will be long.) Tyler came over on Thursday night and we had a nacho feast together. I didn't have class Friday because of our dinky one-day fall break. Tyler quickly passed out on my bed with a belly full of nachos. :P I followed shortly. On Friday we tried to wake up at a decent hour. Then we packed and headed to Amicalola Falls State Park to begin our adventure! We each had a big pack on our backs and the first hour or so of our hike up the Appalachian Approach Trail was rouuugh and steeeep! On the way we found a neat reddish frog, and named him Franz. He peed profusely on Tyler after posing for some model shots. I can't really remember the numbers but we hiked a bit over 7 miles the first day and made it to the Black Gap shelter 20 minutes before dark. We climbed down a steep 300 yard hill to filter spring water into our water bottles at least 5 different times throughout the weekend. It tasted good! I miss that water. We settled into the shelter accompanied by 4 burly men on a man's weekend camping/hiking trip. Tyler appropriately named them the "Goof Troop". Our dinner was spam on bagels! It was my first time with spam. It really wasn't bad! This was our first introduction to Mouser. He was the pesky curious mouse who lived in the shelter. He would try to climb a rope, but fall and make a thud on the wood floor, so we always knew when he was there. We had a good sleep late and chill morning on Saturday. We sat in the shelter and talked for a few hours and set off for Springer Mountain at 1:30pm. We made it there in under an hour and it had the most spectacular view! We sat down for a snack on the rock at the top. It was the first tree clearing where we could see anything at all, so it was neat seeing how high we were! We layed on that rock for a while relaxing in the sun. After that we hiked back to Black Gap. That day totaled about 4 miles. Maybe? This night we got our shelter to ourselves! There was a dad camping with 4 kids in a tent nearby and he had the most intense campfire stories! We heard the cresendo in his voice as he told spooky stories and I giggled about it. I didn't know that happened in real life! How heartwarming. That night I had more spam on bagel and Tyler had peanut butter on his bagel. We made our own fire and it was quite the accomplished feeling! After the fire went out we hopped in the sleeping bag for bed. After settling in and closing our eyes Tyler got a good spook out of Mouser climbing up his arm! Eekkk. It was kind of tough falling back asleep knowing there was a little mouse curious to climb on us, and maybe he did while we were sleeping! :D My comfort was thinking about my pet mice, I don't mind them climbing on me. I woke up a few hours after falling asleep, told Tyler mah belleh hurt, and ooched over to the edge of the shelter to throw up over the edge! I think it was the spam that was stored in the bag. Mmm. I didn't feel too great Sunday morning but we had to start early so we'd get back to my apartment with plenty of time for Tyler to drive home and then to Kennesaw. The uphills that day killed my calves and knees! We made it back in 3 or 4 hours... That day was a 7 something mile day! When we returned we were rewarded with the sight of Amicalola Falls! Then chose to walk down the way too populated staircase that leads to the bottom. Stairs killed. Slow Asian people were annoying. Tyler wanted to kick a little kid. :D We weren't ready to be back in civilization with all those dumb people after being completely absorbed in the serenity and peace of nature. Tyler hung out with me at my apartment for a bit before leaving. We made another giant plate of nachos which was WIN! I was really sad when he had to leave...all the teamwork and inseperableness of the backpacking made it tough to say goodbye. We hiked up and down 3 mountains! The total miles hiked: 18. I hiked 3 barefoot :] The total hours spent hiking: about 11 or 13? I'm sore.
I was surprised with the announcement that GIRL TALK is THURSDAY! Yeah... whut!? Already?! I'm excited--that means I get to go to Kennesaw after work/advisement on Thursday, stay the night there, and leave at 7am for Friday class! :D
