Squeeing for Twitter and other Fannish Things

Guys, you're officially allowed to completely disregard any opinions I have on music from now on, because I actually stood in line to see Patrick Stump last night, surrounded by tweens and teens who squeed in unison in response to Twitter posts and things, leaving me scratching my head for a while and feeling incredibly old. The messes look_alive gets me

Basically tumblr works with you reblogging posts and following others? It took me a while to get going, but you can always mark tags so certain posts will show up on your dashboard. It's how I follow the Midnight Crew/Problem Sleuth/Mobsterswitch fandom, of which I think only exists on tumblr.

Ah-ha, thanks! I had no idea you could track tags, too. I think what was confusing me is the apparent lack of communities? But I take it the tags work in kind of the same way? After so long on LJ, I feel weird just following random people.

Some Tumblrs sort of function like communities, where other users can submit posts and then the owner can decide whether or not to post them. In my experience there are way fewer social formalities, so it's less of a big deal to just randomly follow or reblog someone than it would be here, especially if that person already has a lot of followers. But yeah, that takes some getting used to.

I'm hoping I'll figure out the social formalities eventually... and figure out which tumblrs to follow for maximum enjoyment and sense-making, because holy constant updates. Most of what I've come across hasn't been nearly as... confessional as LJ tends to be, but I've noticed not everyone does a separate art blog and I feel kind of odd getting updates about people's lives when I just want to stare at their art. Especially since I'm a lurky creeper. (Is there a way to follow just a certain tag on an individual tumblr?)

I don't think there's any way to track a tag in a specific blog, but you could maybe use Tumblr Savior to block topics that you don't want to see. I'm kind of of the mindset that the people who do that probably know that people are following them just for their art and don't mind those users also seeing the other stuff.

And thank you! That video is one of my favorite things right now and was overjoyed when I found out that someone had done an icon set of it.

Yeah there are no clear cut communities. I think a lot of people know of others because of either talking through the ask box or some other method. I feel sort of uncomfortable following people I don't know, but the content of what they post won over.

Actually, having a conversation on tumblr is kind of awful.
