Haha, sorry I missed this post yesterday. You were saying?
P.S. I bought another Sims expansion pack the other day and was able to make some adjustments to most of the trolls. Gamzee in particular has been significantly improved.
Ahaha, I ended up subjecting you to the beginning of my ramblings in your journal today anyway. ^_^ But we can move them over here if need be! And I can be all "No, but really, I think there's something significant to the fact that there are only four repeat references to beverages in the entire comic, and Rose and Kanaya get the "mature" ones (alcohol and blood) and Dave and Gamzee get the "kiddy" ones (apple juice and Faygo). I can pretend there's something to that, right?" ^_^
That is a much more Gamzee Gamzee. He looks much more comfortable with proper hair. (-;

First, about Aradia's ancestor. I actually think it's brilliant, because it puts into perspective how arbitrary the term "ancestor" really is. Since the trolls don't have a reciprocal relationship with their Ancestors like the kids do with their guardians, and the Ancestors don't enter the Medium, they appear to have two specific roles in their universe: to influence the course of Alternian history, and, as recent updates seem to be indicating, to kind of function as "backup" S***b players. Actually, that just gave me an idea: efficient as S***b is, what if that's the case in every session? The backups are tasked with creating the world that the eventual players inhabit? So okay, if my ancestor lore theory is correct, then of course the trolls' "backup" set got a collective name that suggests the distant past, because Vriska would find it more romantic to imagine her closest genetic relative as a mysterious figure of legend than just as someone who happened to be born before she was. But in reality, they could live any time in the

I will get to the rest of this tomorrow, but: You have no idea how strongly I am currently considering stealing your thoughts on the Handmaid and writing that fic myself. That would be so much fun. Though yeah, delving into Alternain history right now would just be asking to get Jossed.
PART TWO (of two)flutingfrenzySeptember 20 2011, 02:57:36 UTC
Eye motifs. I agree that there are eye motifs. I agree that they are everywhere. So let's see, what have we got in the comic? The harlequin is missing an eye (and an arm); Jack is missing an eye and an arm because of that; Slick is missing an eye and an arm to parallel Jack. Vriska's missing an eye and an arm, perhaps to parallel Slick, perhaps to be the Captain Hook to Tavros's Peter Pan; Mindfang is blind in one eye and missing an arm to parallel Vriska; both lost their special seven-pupil eyes - lucky seven, so going blind = loss of luck? Someone is "the tyrant less an arm and an eye," and in theory it could be any of the above. Terezi is blind because her sign is the Scales, which symbolize Justice, and she is a Seer of Mind, which suits her because that includes the minds of criminals. Sollux has "vision twofold" and zooming in on his eyes reveals the reflections of the kids' and trolls' universes; later he is blinded; he knows the future and therefore becomes a "blind prophet;" going blind = losing red and blue eyes that reflect

::flails:: This just got so much more complicated! (Also, I'm responding to just this part first, because I didn't get the email about the first and so I haven't thought about it properly yet.)
So, re: the eye thing, I was thinking almost entirely in terms of the visual references to eyes that are not actually eyes. For example, the fact that the red spiral pattern that fills Terezi's eyes when she stares into the sun matches the sky in Dave's hometown while the meteors are raining down. Also the cat-like eye made by Vriska's mortal wound superimposed against her god-emblem sun, which I'm pretty sure is mirrored somewhere else as well... I just can't remember where. There aren't that many other cat-eyes, though (I'm going to pretend it's some kind of link to Nepeta for now. I really should've been bookmarking pages as I was going through.) There's also the look of the kids' planets--LOHAC in particular is often shown with the beat mesa in the center, and Skaia post-Tumor removal is also eye-like. (Actually, together they're
