Coraline

We went to see Coraline in 3-D, and it was subtly wrong and creepy in a suitably Gaiman-esque way. The 3-D is beautifully done -- blended in such a seamless way that you almost don't notice that you're watching a movie in 3-D, but it brings real additional life and depth to the visuals -- so definitely go see it in 3-D if you can.

"Get to the point" seems to be the clarion call of writing these days. It's frustrating as a writer because I enjoy a slower pace, of building gradually, and playing with turns of phrase and imagery, but good luck selling that. As a reader, it's frustrating because I like to spend a little time with the characters before getting blasted in the face with non-stop action only to say good-bye to those vaguely interesting strangers I might have liked to have known. I find that conundrum translates into movies as well.

We saw Coraline today, too, and it was quite enjoyable, but I had much the same experience.

I am hoping that it will still be in theaters on presidents' day, when the kids have school, but I don't. Only one week from today!

It has scared the crap out of my 9 year old daughter. Who has taken residence in our bed 2 nights running now.
