9:32 AM 11/3/09 · Halloween wasn't bad. Mostly good if a bit slow. See,
niveK &
Anna were having a BBQ that day so I went to that. Initially
Raven was supposed to come to my place the night before, crash, and then go with me the following day but there was a scheduling issue on her end so she went with meeting me there the following day.
When I arrived there wasn't much of anybody there.
niveK was puttering around setting things up, one of his band members was working on the grill.
Anna was in the bedroom getting dressed so I mostly hung in there. Partially as she drafted me as her 'hand maidedn' to help her get into her costume/dress. The dress was lovely but it's got this leather armor deal that goes over it, and severely restricts the ability to walk, and she was having me help her into the leather part.
I was much better doing the other parts later than the part she wanted me to work on first. It was confusing the fuck outta me (I maintain it's easier to undress her than dress her) but I felt better when
niveK came into help and he seemed just as lost as I was. Off to the side, and blocking the door,
Kaa was supervising with much amusement...
...wearing a full on chain mail dealio which reminded me of XMAS everytime she moved!
After they left,
Anna to work with another friend that swung by, and
Kaa possibly to the same place (jingling all the way), it was just the 3 of us. This was a little odd as the last BBQ at their place it was pretty well populated the whole day.
This time it was never more than a few of us most of the day.
Anna & Co. didn't get back until I left later that night.
Had a couple hot dogs and burgers, over the course of the day, though by the end of things I was getting that feeling in the back of my thraot that I'd eaten a little too much meat. Or maybe just too much meat without something else to balance it out. Milk might've worked but the only carton they had, which had been purchased the day before, expired on Halloween. From the scent I think it may'v gone bad a bit before that.
Always important to check the date on those things!
Eventually
Raven showed up and, after a brief hug, made a beeline for the fridge. There's a lot to go with this but I'm more than a little concerned. How does one tell if someone, not diagnosed, is an alcoholic? It's a difficult determination for me cuz most of the people I know that imbibe in alcohol do so to excess. Hell, most of the folks I know from Rocky Horror to
BayCon tended to get plastered every night they were at an event and were dead lumps of flesh for most of the following day. They were fairly toasted still as they stumbled around the event. Due to this I don't have much in the way of a good read on when someone drinks because they can't stop or drinks cuz they love being drunk.
I am, however, good at spotting drunk.
Regardless, I'm not sure where
Raven currently falls in that line of thought. She went to the fridge to see if there was any beer. Then she wanted to hit a local corner store to buy more because the 5 or so bottles in there wasn't enough. Her rationale was that she didn't want to drink all of their beer so we had to get some more.
Just that little bit, I'd be worried enough if I didn't love her. Loving her makes the concern that much more intense.
Most of the day was fairly boring. At some point more of
niveK's band showed up and they jammed in another room. Good enough that they were so loud I could enjoy it without being in there with them as the London Fog, pot fumes, were much too thick for me to deal with.
Took a bit before they stopped offering.
Oddity? I do love
5·Acres·of·Fear's music but a lot of the time they're jamming it always sounds like the same song to me. A little variation here or there but mostly just the one piece.
A lot of people cancelled for various reasons, only really credible one I heard was Sage who was waiting on the birth of his next child.
Suzi & Jack were quite a bit later even before they had a good reason...and it was only good as it was effective. Not good in that it was really quite tragic. Car was demolished with them in it. They're okay, relaitively speaking. At the time Jack had a nasty head bleed, taken to the hospital, but she was okay...
...at the time.
She's in quite a bit of pain now.
The body reacts a bit weird to pain sometimes. Depending on circumstances, sometimes there's a lengthy delay before you realize you're hurt. Took her two days before her body decided to clue her into the fact.
It's probably a good thing I can't be called as a witness to
Suzi's defense as I wasn't there to see it but ever since I first got a rough description of what happened, of which there were several that day, to the more detailed one I got on the phone last night, I can't totally say who was more at fault. Well, it was a hit & run so a lot of fault can be put on the runner but it's the parts before that.
Short form: it started on the extreme left side of the freeway and ended on the extreme right and it's the circumstances from the beginning point to just before the final collision I have a lot of issues with...
...and that's all I have to say about that.
At various points
Raven and I debated jumping into the bathroom to...uhm...arrange the curtains. We were about a month shy of a year from the last time we'd arranged the curtains and we were both of a mind that those curtains really needed to get straightened out. My only real issue, that kept me from going there, was that
niveK has had issues with me arranging the curtains in his house before. Back in the day I'd arrange the curtains with some friend or other at his place before and he was all for it. He used to enjoy watching me & whoever arrange curtains. However, he got a bit aggravated with it for a stretch and demanded I not do so again...
...even though since then I've arranged the curtains with
Raven in his room with him watching.
I didn't want to do anything that would potentially bother him on this already wonky day.
We were a little less than stellar with the Halloween candy. It's not like my neighborhood where the costumed ones come along hardly ever, and usually when the sun is still up, for candy. At
niveK &
Anna's they didn't show till very late, and not all of them were little kids, and things were okay for a bit. Then
Raven and I went for a little walk and when we came back most of the candy was gone. Now the band maintains a lot of kids showed up and ate it but I'm a little skeptical given the London Fog and the usual after effect that tends to have.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it!
Fortunately I had a bag of mini·reese's peanut butter cups to refill the bowl.
Long post to a close, eventually
Raven and I arranged the curtains and only
Suzi worked it out. I wound up footing it to the train to catch the last one outta town while
Raven left with
Suzi & Jack.
As I wasn't home that night I still have a massive bowl of candy and I've just about finished eating the ones I like. Going to have to find someone to eat the rest.
