10:19 AM 10/21/08 · Kept meaning to write this up and I kept forgetting. Fortunately, well...not really, the situation is still going on so this will be relevant.

The one and only good thing about my getting laid off is that I'm not taking the Caltrain so much anymore. Certainly not in the evenings. It started about 2 weeks back at the California station but it's since progressed to the University Ave (the official Palo Alto one) station too. There's been a rash of muggings, possibly brought on by the failing economy, generally targetting women and the elderly...

...I'm not that old but a body gets desperate enough and everybody's fair game.

Last I heard, and I should read local papers more often, there have been about 3 at California and about the same or a little bit more at Univeristy. It's bad enough that these are happening at all but even moreso by the fact the muggers are using baseball bats.

If you do happen to hit either of these stations, or the ones on either side of them, and it's late at night when there's less people around...keep your eyes open and move fast!
