Dearest little Sister,
If she's not shared this with you as yet, two weeks back I asked Mom when exactly you were going to call and tell us you were getting married...
...I may've used the word hitched but that's hardly as elegant I'm sure you will agree.
As I have little illusions on ever having children, I strangely feel a need to convey upon you some fatherly advice...or something. I'm sure our actual Dad will do the same in his time but I still would like to do this.
*ahem*
You came into this world quite tiny and over the years you have grown but fundamentally remained small. Yet you are a giant in your soul, your accomplishments, and capacity of being a human being. You are the best person I have ever known and most certainly my hero. Sometimes I find it hard to grasp all you have accomplished in such a short time and it is beyond my wildest imaginings, which with my imagination is pretty out there, what you may yet succeed to do in the years to come. You are about to take a really big step but as small as you are I'm sure your stride has grown more than large enough to handle it.
The foundation of marriage isn't what it used to be and who knows if even back in the day it was all that to begin with. However I expect yours to blow away even the heighest of ideals to be found in the most memorable of fairy tales. Should I be invited to the wedding, be bad after all this if I weren't, I can only speculate how it would be to witness.
I do have an educated guess handy.
To see you walk down the aisle and to the place you will take your vows...you will still be that child I met all those years ago. Coming back from there as you and your beloved walk out into your new life, you will finally and truly have become a man...
...oh, didn't I mention? Chances may be slim but I always figured I'd have a son.
It's bad luck to kill your brother before you're married!
love ya lady
It was written on my PDA in a rush, just kinda came to me the moment I got the confirmation. When she was in town I copied and pasted it to a word processor and printed it up for her.
Sis was blown away and happily tearful.
I have my moments.
Not entirely sure why but I've kept it on my PDA ever since. Suspect that when I get a new one I'll transfer it along with some other things.
