8:22 PM 5/29/07 · It's one of those odd little things. Even though I set my VCR to tape stuff at night...I often find myself watching it as it switches channels and goes from show to show. Granted, a lot of the time I'm actually watching other things of interest that because of timeslot conflicts I've got to tape one in order to see the other...
...is it any wonder I moderate a television community? Now, if only I could get other people to post recommended shows...
...but I digress.
Every so often I'll rent some things, like I did tonight, and since Blockbuster has a week long rental policy I'm not often in much of a rush. All that and I still manage not to actually watch most of my rentals until a couple days before I need to return them. Which is doubley tricky as I then write up a review for everything I watch and post them to my rentals community...
...digressing, yeah I know.
On my way home I swung through Blockbuster, for no particular reason. Hadn't intended to and then I just found myself working through the new releases; rarely go through the old stuff unless I'm looking for something specific. I've currently had to be a bit more selective in what I rent as I tend to take advantage of their frequent sales of pre·viewed movies and have quite the stack at home. All well and good excepting I haven't watched even ½ that pile so I'm not 100% sure what I have and what I don't.
Kinda pointless to rent what I've already got, don't ya think?
This week's grab bag: The Black Dahlia, Epic Movie, & Night at the Museum. I usually grab 3 films, occasionally 4 depending on my mood. Normally I ransack the horror section if I can't find anything in the new stuff. Very cool stuff...
...except for that middle one. Almost didn't rent it but I did for two reasons. In the 1st place, I've got a wicked cool idea for a future convention. In the 2nd place...
...let's just say I talked to
Rachel before I made it to Blockbuster and despite the great dread I had regarding Epic Movie, she convinced me to get past it and see it. That said, if viewing it should unhinge my itty bitty little mind and I go on a murderous rampage...I'm coming for you
Rachel, and your little dog too.
I always wanted a beagle.
The wicked cool idea, and if it's not I trust you all to be decent enough human beings to not tell me, was intended for BayCon but I figure any decent convention will do. Even though I've not seen Epic Movie I have a vaguely rough idea on some of the content. Now, any good convention these days, regardless of type, will generally have a Captain Jack Sparrow; I usually default the role to
Al as he is unquestionably the best. The general idea is for him to go about and do as he does, an impressive display of his capturing the character and giving it some of his own flair, when up from behind him and attempting to do the same, with his own wonkish flair, is someone dressed as Captain Jack Swallows. This is the spoofed version of the role Depp played so beautifully that's in this truly horrid film. Call me odd, you wouldn't be the first, but I figure the spoofed version shadowing the real deal would make for a very amusing crazy amount of fun.
Only one small problem...who does a decent Captain Jack Swallows?
Off the top of my head, the only other piratey types I know would be
Kristen and her hubby...the great and mighty Bob! Problem there is that he's too tall and while she's got the height she's, if you'll excuse the term, smokin' hot. Captain Jack Swallows is beyond butt ugly! There's not enough makeup and prosthetics in the world to make her unattractive.
Frankly, I'm at a loss.
