things I remember from my youth

7:57 PM 5/5/06 · I don't tend to listen to the MP3 player in my PDA unless I'm on the train. There's a few other times but they are few and far between. I definitely don't listen to it when I'm walking around because, no matter how many other people I see do it, that's just pure idiocy. I've seen and heard enough people getting hit by traffic or any number of other things, Caltrain, because they couldn't process all the sense factors around them. To put it a lot simpler, it's important to hear what's going on around you because you never know for sure what it is you're not seeing otherwise.

This doesn't mean that I don't listen to music when I'm walking though. Have always had this knack, once I got my head around it, that whenever I'm thinking music I'm practically hearing it; every note, every chord, every beat...although it doesn't help me if I didn't know all the words to begin with.

However, this past week I recalled something that I'd not heard from my much younger school days. That or summer camp...kinda fuzzy on this one:

On top of Old Smokey
All covered with cheese
I shot my poor teacher
With the greatest of ease

I shot her with pleasure
I shot her with pride
I couldn't have missed her
She was fourty feet wide

And when it was over
She still wasn't dead
So I grabbed a bazooka
And blew off her head

Amazing what little kids sing. Right up there with Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts. You can actually substitute the 2nd line with covered with snow and the 4th with a bow and arrow. Think there might even have been some extra verses too but I can't recall anything specific.

Anybody know the rest of it?

pda, music, mp3
