Public·Transit 1:07 AM 1/22/07 · This isn't one of my usual stupids seeing as it comes after my having worked 30 hours straight at work. After that rather exhausting trip, I barely managed 7 hours of sleep before I went back. Joked, via de phone, to
Gryphon that I was walking in circles without trying to cuz my brain was in such a funny place. There's some other stuff but suffice it to say I was significantly loopier than I normally am.
Getting to San Francisco was pretty simple, Caltrain had no issues to reporty. However the MUNI was tied in a bloody knot with 5 of their trains all in sight but deadlocked for being in each other's way. This went on for a good 45 minutes before one finally pulled in for us to get to where we were going.
Work was okay, nothing major to report there. I haven't worked weekends in so long that I forgot the fact that the Caltrain schedule doesn't run as late as it does on all the other days. That and I normally depend on the schedule I keep on my PDA but that died something fierce recently so I was back to using my Palm m505 which isn't quite up to snuff. Put all of these factors together and you might understand how it is I nearly stranded myself in San Francisco.
Because of the mixup with MUNI earlier I had decided to stay a bit later given that I got to work later. I was in the middle of a big bowl of cereal when I decided to check the Caltrain schedule and noticed the alst train out of SF that night was 9pm. I practically upended the bowl into my mouth and drank the rest of the cereal while I bolted up and grabbed all of my stuff. I knew there was no way in Hell I could make it to Caltrain in time but I might be able to take BART to Millbrae and catch it there...
...it's worked before.
While I was waiting for BART, very annoyed I didn't have a copy of their schedule on this particular PDA as I did with the recently deceased one, I overheard the MUNI's automated info system; the MUNI is one level above BART. Because I'd switched the schedule to Millbrae instead of SF, juggling whether or not I'd be able to make the connection, I heard that my normal MUNI car had arrived and I got the times mixed. Thinkind suddenly that the Caltrain outta SF was at 9:45pm, which is actually the last train heading South from Millbrae, I ran up the escalator and then down another to get to MUNI, took the car to Caltrain...where no more trains were leaving the city. For some reason reality only set in about when we were in sight of the train station.
So, back on MUNI to go back to BART to take me to Millbrae...where there would be no train but it was my best bet at this point. I'd called
niveK when I was first at BART to see if he could rescue me at Millbrae, just in case, but he was far too stoned to help me so we worked on switching to
Anna. I remade plans, telling him what happened with my sudden mad dash to MUNI and then back to BART, which gave him a good laugh, and then worked out how I'd get my ride home.
Got to Millbrae and looked for a Samtrans to take me to San Mateo. See, for this to work, I had to get to the Barnes & Noble across from the Hillsdale Mall where
Anna would pick me up as she was leaving work to take me home. Waited for a long bit with no bus in sight and then opted for a taxi instead; I hate taxis as I had a really bad experience once. Driver was pretty cool, wanted to talk sports which is not one of my topics, and got me there in record time; it was like a rollercoaster the way this guy dodged traffic lights and knew all the shortcuts.
The reason I gave up waiting for the bus was it was taking too long and I don't know how late they run in San Mateo. About five minutes after I goto B&N, a Samtrans pulled up and drove past. If I'd only waited another 25 minutes I could've been on that thing.
Anyways, the rest of my tale involves my drive home with
Anna but that's not public transportation so that's all you get.
