started my day the worst way imaginable

I hate ants.

8:15 AM 12/21/2006 · Last night wasn't so bad...beyond the $128 I shelled out for 3 weeks of comics. Before that I hung out with
Gryphon &
Kaa for a little bit. After that I ate at Burger King, picked something up from Mrs. Fields, and then headed home. There were many drunk folks on the train, as is common the later on the night gest, which is often a good thing for me as they tend to be amusing.

All in all, not too different than most nights.

Over the past week I've been seeing signs of ants at my place, on my bed of all places which is just bad all over, but only like 7 tops. I sent them off to the Next with little to no effort and that was that. Figured this was a sign I needed to do a major cleaning but didn't feel hard pressed as they were what I'd term to be scouts more than an actual invasion.

When I got in last night I cranked up the heat and got about my usual habits. Downloading my work disc while getting rid of the template I'd uploaded onto it earlier that day (s'what I do since I don't have a home connection...what I post here is largely all on one disc and my hard drive). Didn't feel highly motivated to write anything and I just wanted to get it done. The light over my desk, which is kinda like those ones you have in ceilings at most offices (tube deal with an ignited gas within) was flickering something fierce until it just died about 15 minutes into things. Definitely didn't feel like writing then, bad idea to work by screen light, so turned off my system and headed for bed to read comics and eventually sleep.

Killed a few more ants too.

Woke up this morning and read some more comics, woke at about 3:40am and stayed in bed till about 5am, and then headed over to the desk to upload my disc. Light was still out so I was using a mini·halogen I've had for years, kind of a high·tech nightlight, and I sat down and waited for the computer to fully boot up. That's when my right arm started to itch like crazy.

Seemed odd so I leaned toward the light to see what was up.

It was swarming with ants. That and most of my lap, didn't see till later that they were all over the desk and seat.

Did I mention I was still naked?

I'm not prone to bursts of anger or swearing much and I suspect it was only as most of my neighbors were still asleep that the screaming and cursing that erupted from my place right then didn't cause a general panic. I was quite loud and on the warpath.

It's a little known fact about me, a term which is fairly moot as I post most everything, that ants scare the bejeebus outta me. Largely attributed to being buried so thick in them as a kid that I couldn't see any part of me from the waist down. I've never been that covered in them since and what was stark terror once gradually worked its way down to a mild uncomfortableness.

So past that this morning!

Killed what was on me, nuked the rest (handy little bug spray that smells like oranges to humans but they chemically fear it as well as die from exposure), and retreated to my bed. Unfortunately, and sadly I didn't realize this for a full minute, there were still ants on my legs...which resulted in yet another panic attack as I shoved everything on my bed off.

Took me about 5 minutes before rational thought (or as close as I get) kicked back in.

Even longer before I stopped shaking.

Finding clothes to wear was the real trick, dim lighting (only my bed lights were working) and ants everywhere made that less then fun. were it not for the fact I promised the boss type person I'd be here today I might not've left the house. As it is...I'm wearing laundry right now.

So, I'm at work and feeling all sorts of not good and I've got ghost itches everywhere. You know how you normally just itch sometimes? Imagine that after the morning I've had and add to that more than a smidge of knowing that exactly how ants feel when they're on you.

Know the real joy of my life? I get to go back to that and fight the little fuckers all night long. I don't know exactly where they gained access to my place yet...

9:08 AM · Had to do a job for a client. While that was going on I've spotted two more ants. This either means the office is having its own ant problem, which being on the 48th floor makes it seem unlikely, or, more likely, I brought stowaways.

Like I wasn't agitated enough already. Spotted that 2nd one and de boss type person was here. Near scared him to death by jumping back from the desk.

Not expecting to get any sleep tonight for having to wash everything, spray gratuitously, and the fact my skin is crawling something fierce.

gryphon, ants, home, kaa, primal fear
