9:25 PM 11/2/06 · I'm not entirely sure when exactly I got so fixated on birthdays but it is something of an obsession. Given that Missy and I were so close for so long a stretch and I have no idea what her birthday is...must've been sometime after that. As I used to have issues remembering my Parents & Sisters birthdays years back I got into the habit of recording them into whatever electronic medium I'm carrying. I keep entries on people I know in my PDA so when it's about a week ahead of their special day so I know it's coming and I make note of it somehow when I can. As I'm usually not online most weekends I'll send an advance thing on Friday or, as I've started as of last weekend, if the friend's got a cellphone I send them a birthday text message;

Suzi. While I used to just write something on the cuff, I've lately been using something of a form which I'll probably keep up with for another year or so:
Be it known that on this day (insert day here), in the year of our Lord (insert year here), you are to be celebrated for having survived yet another year.
I usually add something a bit more personal and put "CAKE!" somewhere in there as well. I have this theory that you don't actually age, it's not an official birthday, unless there's cake. This is not an absolute for everybody, as in the case of

Warlock who doesn't age as on his birthdays he just celebrates the Anniversary of his 21st birthday.
Guess denials pretty effective too.
So far only one person has had any problem with this, namely

Marc, as he took offense at the use of the word "Lord". Explained it wasn't really a religious thing, that with me it's just a reference to chocolate. What's a birthday without chocolate?
With livejournal, the birthday
tracker is handy this way. Other than the post itself (
Clicky!) I usually don't actually send a birthday something or other unless I know the person in the real world or they're somebody special to me. This proves tricky where

PePe is concerned because she mentioned her birthday was this month to me a couple days back but when I did this last birthday post she didn't show up. I often get complaints about this when it happens but the tracker only works if you've entered your birthday onto your profile...otherwise nada.
When I went to
BAGG this last Wednesday I ran into

Jenelle and, among other things, we talked about her birthday. I was surprised to learn I'd not sent her a birthday card online but after a quick skim of my PDA I discovered I'd never marked it down. I remember her popping up in last month's birthday post (
Clicky!) but I'm not sure why I didn't remember. At the time I said I was sure I'd sent her something but she informed me I hadn't.
I don't know

Jenelle that well but kinda want to. She's got this whole happy inducing thing going on, chalk it up to an excess of positive energy, and she's really interesting. That and she's pocket sized which is always a nice plus. Because of this I kinda want to go that next extra little step...
...an actual card beats any online variation hands down!
A stretch back I located, at the local Mollie Stone's, the perfect birthday card. They've actually got quite the selection but this particular one is great. As she's a regular dancer at
BAGG I suppose I could swing by long enough to find her and give it to her and still catch one of the last trains out of San Francisco for that night. I'd be just as dead the next day at work but still.
At the time I'm writing this I don't have access to the internet so I guess I'll have to fill the links in later. Little before I post this then I'll know

Jenelle's birthday. Figure this is the least I can do seeing as she sent me a birthday invite to her bash in the City but seeing as I'm at the mercy of public transport I'm not sure how I'd get there and even if I could I know I'd never catch the last train out of the City. Unlike Monday through Friday, it's a much longer wait on the weekend; first train of the day isn't 4:55am but 8am.
Although, it'd've been nice to know if I'm considered a good enough friend to get into the party wearing jeans.
