8:01 PM 10/4/06 · Generally it is considered bad form to fall asleep at work. Even moreso to snore while doing so.
Warlock woke me up pretty quick, though it seemed awhile to me; don't know the math but I think 3 seconds normal time equates with 5 minutes dream time. Anyway, he was very amused when I told him that I could hear myself snoring while asleep...I suspect it's because I don't do it often. It was especially weird from my perspective because I was sitting in a seemingly endless field of snow chatting with an ostrich.
The ostrich wasn't the weird part. I couldn't figure out what that odd buzzing noise was for the life of me. Told this to
Warlock after I was up and about again and he almost fell out of his chair laughing...
...but I digress.
It should be fairly clear to all of you, that care, that
BayCon will not be at the DoubleTree Inn for the 2007 event. Moreso that the new location is the San Mateo Marriott; personally preferred the place when it was still called the Dunfy and looked like Camelot. Suppose you might be wondering why this is anymore relevant than that bit up top.
We 'b' geeks.
BayCon's a science fiction/fantasy convention.
Deal!
Part of this is because not everyone is aware of the switchover and part's just cuz I'm brainstorming. It's not till Memorial Day Weekend (May) but I'm still working out the details now. That and on my lunch break I setup my room reservation so that's out of the way. Right off, I'll say this for the new location...the DoubleTree wouldn't let me setup a reservation until 2007 was underway.
It goes without saying that certain peoples are automatically slated for roommate status with me...if they go.
Rachel for sure, figure the convention being that much closer to her will help that along.
Al is always welcome and he can get his stuff back from Kestral who also has an in.
Raven is a definite unless she intends to go through with the gopher crash fascination. I told
Nash at the end of the last event he was welcome back but I'm going to have to caution him as I learned after the fact that he made a couple of my other roommates uncomfortable. Rather unpredictable when she shows up,
Kasper is allowed in just cuz she's who she is. I kinda doubt
Brand will be needing a room, as he lives a relatively short distance from the location, but if he does I understand the bathtubs there are very spacious.
One of the early conversations I had about this, before anyone knew where our new home was gonna be, was with
Kendra who was outraged. This kinda surprised me as she doesn't really much care for
BayCon...she's a Fanime type; only goes to the other for the late night parties and crashing with friends. Turns out her anger was for those regulars that go that hadn't been informed about this, which is partially why I'm keeping folks abreast of what's going on. The other reason's something I share: a concern that uninformed people may exist all the way to the time of the convention and get their rooms setup at the DoubleTree and wonder where the Hell
BayCon is when they're there that weekend.
Here's what I want you all to do, those that are
BayCon type folks: tell everybody you know that cares about this convention that the DoubleTree gave us the boot, that we'll be located at the San Mateo Marriott, and that...that...
...okay, lost my train of thought. Just tell people about the new location and that the convention will be on at the same Bat time of year it always has been before.
