2003 meme

Dec 23, 2003 20:39

Note: I used to work shifts. This leads to odd mental effects to do with time. One or two of these things might have happened last year or the year before, so I'm going with what felt like it happened this year.

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
All sorts of things. Grew up and started taking responsibility, mostly.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes. My New Year's resolution was to be stronger, and though I've fallen short in some regards I'm proud of my progress. More resolutions? More of the same, I think. Be strong. Take responsibility. Learn to deal with people who try to be strong at the expense of others. Keep in touch with folks.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No-one close.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. Enjoy the afterlife, Grandpa, it should be a real hoot.

5. What countries did you visit?
Wales. And then England. I now visit England regularly (almost every time I go shopping). :)

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Enough money that I don't have to worry about the bloody stuff any more.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August Bank Holiday weekend, for all sorts of reasons. Several dates for the two months around it.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Leaving my ex-fiance.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Too many to count.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. I don't injure often, but I had a couple of doses of cold and a lot of migraines.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A train ticket to Hereford. A meal for a friend at a Chinese buffet. A month's rent in Leeds.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Merc's.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Mike's and his brother's.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Debts incurred over the past few years.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Snow. Life. Freedom. LARP.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
I've no idea.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? Sort of. Heavier, but less bodyfat.
iii. richer or poorer? Hard to say. Poorer in some ways, richer in others. No longer neck-deep in mounting debt, though, which is worth a lot - now neck-deep but with an end in sight.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Laugh.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Put up with shit.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
In my new home with my new man and his brother's cat.

21. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Yes, but somewhat after a certain person thinks.

22. How many one-night stands?
I don't do them, so none. However, in one person's perceptions, I had a few of them with a guy 200 miles away and with neither of us able to travel. Ahem. Sorry, a trace of bitterness crept in there.

23. What was your favourite TV program?
Um. Good question. Don't watch much TV. Probably Oz, since it's the only thing I arranged some tapes for.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. I don't hate.

25. What was the best book you read?
I don't know. I've read so many. Perhaps Exile's Honour, by M. Lackey. It's fluff, but well-written and easily read fluff. :)

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Merc's CD collection.

27. What did you want and get?
A life, a friend, a whole year of continued existance.

28. What did you want and not get?
Peace and understanding from two directions.

29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Return of the King, closely followed by Pirates. Swashbuckling ahoy!

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I worked a 12-hour dayshift. I was 26.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A Lottery win. Mind you, I'd have to take part first. ;)

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Comfortable. Clean. Presentable if needs be.

33. What kept you sane?
Merc.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I tend not to fancy these people. Johnny Depp didn't half look good as Captain Jack Sparrow, though. :)

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
The fact that politicians are allowed to get away with it.

36. Who did you miss?
Everyone else I had to leave behind.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Merc's brother. Technically I met him a couple of years ago, but I only really got to know him over the last few months. And, of course, Merc himself. While we'd worked together for a couple of events, I never really talked to him before May.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
Strength isn't being able to participate in shouting matches. Someone who's 15 can be more of an adult than someone who's 36. When it comes to the really big decisions, I spend a long time making my mind up and consider everything from as many angles as I can think of, but when my mind's made up I act as soon as sensible.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I can see clearly now the rain has gone,
It's gonna be a bright, bright sunshiney day.

Well, probably not in Wales, but it's the thought that counts. :)

(Edited because I'm an idiot)
