So, I'm actually making some resolutions this year. Hopefully at least one of them will stick. I managed to do the exercise thing all year, and I'm grateful for that--now I feel very bad if I don't exercise. I am much healthier and my clothes fit better. But for 2012...
1. I will make something (nonedible) every week. Doesn't matter what, or what I do with it, I just need to get back into creative work.
2. I want to be less angry. I cannot change most of the things that make me angry (that's why they make me angry) but I can change how I react to them, and how I react to secondary annoying stimulus when already riled up. To this goal, I have decided that some things will at least help. a. Mindfulness practice. So I will try to spend at least 5 minutes meditating on the present moment each day, with the hope of increasing that drastically as time goes on. b. journaling to channel those feelings of lack of control, and (hopefully again) let them go. and c. starting a gratitude journal in conjunction with this. I want to be able to focus more on what is beautiful about the world, instead of what I find frustrating.
3. I will do some small nice thing for someone at least once a day. Whether it's letting someone in to traffic, or spending time with someone (outside of work) who needs an ear, just something.
My dog says I need to make a resolution to give him more treats. I say he needs to work harder to earn them. He harumphed at me for that. My cats say I need to make a resolution to let them outside more often. They didn't wait for an answer.
