Anyone read the warnings in the little MPAA box of movie trailers lately? "Rated R: For graphic creature violence, pervasive strong language, a nude scene."
I was surprised when seeing the rating for the recent Jane Eyre in which the box said it had 'a nude image.' Turns out it was a painting. Good catch, MPAA.
Now, my favorite part of trailers is the very first bit...where I see if the film has "mayhem throughout," "epic battle violence," "tobacco use," or "mild crude humor."
While the ESRB's system is very fast and concise for video games, such tags as 'comic mischief' or 'mild violence' are rather vanilla compared to the MPAA's descriptive 'brief scene of sensuality.'
Anyone out there find the MPAA's descriptive bits funny? I laughed out loud when I saw the trailer for The Thing during football the other day..."creature violence?" Srsly?
Shame older movies don't have these zany tags...
The Neverending Story: Rated PG: For pervasive existence annhialation and a brief scene of sad horse mud-drowning.
Hey, this is kind of fun...you guys try it!
Star Wars: Rated PG: For mild violence, epic battle sequences, and a brief scene of droid prejudice.
"Hey, we don't serve their kind here!" wish the MPAA had caught that...and quantified it.
